The Custom Sort Function allows you to create your own sort order for columns. You will find it useful when you need to order a column in an non-standard way (i.e. not in alphabetical, numerical, or date order). For example, you will want to sort a Rating column according to the rating, rather than alphabetically. Or you might want to see particular values first in a Sector column.
When a custom sort order is used, AdaptableBlotter.JS applies the custom order first. If the column has values that are not included in the custom sort order, they are sorted according to the default order for the column, for example, alphabetical order for text values.
The default sort order for text columns is alphabetical order. For numerical columns it is high-low order and for date columns it is newest-oldest order.
You can only create one Custom Sort Order per column.
The technique for applying a sort order to a column varies between grid vendors. Before you create a Custom Sort, you should make sure that you know how to change the sort order of a column.
To apply your own sort order to a column, you need to create a Custom Sort
You can only create a Custom Sort on a sortable column - some columns in the Blotter might not be sortable in which case a Custom Sort cannot be applied.
Start the Custom Sort wizard by clicking the 'New' button in Custom Sort popup, or by selecting 'Create Custom Sort' from the Column Header Menu.
In the Custom Sort Wizard, select the column that your custom sort order will apply to.
If you have accessed the wizard from the Column Header Menu this stage will be skipped.
A Selection Tool will appear allowing you to create the items in your sort.
The Column Values section lists all the distinct values in the selected column. The Custom Sort Order section is where you organise the values into the order you want.
When sorting the column, AdaptableBlotter.JS will apply your custom sort order first. Any values that are not in your Custom Sort Order are then sorted alphabetically, numerically, or by date order, depending on the type of column.
For more information see Selection Tool.
The Custom Sort order will be applied the next time you sort the column. If the column to which the Sort is being set is the current sorted column, the sort will be applied immediately.
You can edit, delete and share Custom Sorts as you can with all Adaptable Blotter Objects.
