AdapTable provides many functions that help you to manage the DataGrid.
Alerts are triggered - at run-time - when particular pieces of data changes or other events happen for which a listener has been set.
You can create Alert Definitions which define what triggers the Alert and how and where it will appear.
Alerts can be shown either as a popup, in the Alerts Toolbar control, as a highlighted cell or elsewhere.
The type of the Alert can be:
AdapTable fires an event each time an alert is triggered to which you can listen.
The Cell Summary function allows you to see at a glance summary information about the cells you have selected in AdapTable.
Simply select a group of cells and you can see the summary information about those cells in the Cell Summary toolbar.
AdapTable ships with a set of common Summary Operations; if you are running the Finance plug-in then additional finance-related Operations are available. See the Adaptable Code Documentation for a full list.
The Custom Sort Function allows you to create your own sort order for columns. You will find it useful when you need to order a column in an non-standard way (i.e. not in alphabetical, numerical, or date order). For example, you will want to sort a Rating column according to the rating, rather than alphabetically.
The default sort order for text columns is alphabetical order. For numerical columns it is high-low order and for date columns it is newest-oldest order.
When a custom sort order is used, AdapTable applies the custom order first. If the column has values that are not included in the custom sort order, they are sorted according to the default order for the column, for example, alphabetical order for text values.
You can only create one Custom Sort Order per column - make sure that the Column has been defined as Sortable when it was created.
You can use AdapTable to export data dynamically from your grid into other formats through the use of reports (essentially named queries).
You don't need to first filter the grid before you export; if you have for example, an End of Day report, you need to define it only once and it will evaluate automatically each time you run it. irrespective of how the Grid is currently filtered.
You can export data from AdapTable to a number of locations including CSV, Clipboard, JSON, to iPushPull, Excel (via Glue42 or OpenFin).
You can specify for each report / column combination whether to export the DisplayValue or RawValue of the column.
The last 3 of these will not always be available depending on how your grid is set up and which options have been configured.
You can schedule your exports to run at at time of your choosing or export manually whenever you want.
If scheduling then you can choose between running on a one time date only or as a regular recurrence (e.g. Every Day at 17:30).
AdapTable ships with some predefined reports for frequent queries that you might use. These include: All Data, Visible Data, Selected Cells and Selected Rows.
Layouts allow you easily to switch between different 'views' of your grid, which are named and saved for easy access. Each layout contains a set of column visibility, order, sort information and Vendor Layout Information (e.g. column groups, column widths).
Vendor Layout Information is not available for all underlying grids.
To activate this feature, set the includeVendorStateInLayouts property to true.
When creating a Layout, the wizard will give you a choice between building it from scratch (selecting your own column visibility, order and sorting) or duplicating what is currently in the grid.
There is an option to have layouts save automatically when changes are made in the grid - ensure that the property autoSaveLayoutsis set to true.
Do not create a Layout called Default Layout or AB_Default_Layout as these are used to map your start-up column configuration and can cause problems.
The Default Layout will not auto-save; if you want your Layout to update on changes, then you must create a new Layout.
A Reminder is an Alert that runs according to a Schedule. So, unlike Alerts, it is not trigged by a data (or other) changes, but according to a date schedule set by you.
The Schedule can be either a one-off date, or it can be a Recurring event (e.g. every Monday at 8am, or every day at 17:00).
AdapTable publishes an event each time an alert is fired and this will include if it was triggered by a Reminder.
The Team Sharing function allows users easily to share items they have created with other team members who will have instant access to them.
This saves time, removes the need for duplicated work, and gives your team consistent views of their data.
For example, if a trader is shadowing another trader, they will both need to have the same view of the grid; instead of both traders setting up their grids individually, one trader can set up a search and then share it with the other trader.
Sharing with other team members is a one-click process. Simply click on an item's Share button and it becomes immediately available to everyone else who shares your team storage location.
These users can then download the item by locating it in the Team Sharing popup and clicking the download button.
